Harvest season is here and with it comes a bumper crop of festivals, markets and tasting nights in Birmingham.

 

From Bavarian beers in Digbeth to meat cleaving classes at the Mailbox, Birmingham's foodies will be busy this season.

Now that summer's out the way, we can get down to my favourite time of the year - Autumn. Pumpkins, toffee apples, mulled cider... these are fantastic months for food and drink lovers.

Here's a snapshot of what you can look forward to as the nights draw in. Round up friends and family and plan your next outing...

Digbeth Oktoberfest | 29 September

There's a rollicking celebration of Bavarian beer at The Old Crown in Digbeth, with live music and entertainment to rouse the crowds.

Plus, a few of our favourite street food vendors will be adding a Teutonic twist to their usual fare. Look out for Original Patty Men and Baked in Brick doing German-ish dishes.

Solihull Boundary Feast | 24 September

Solihull will welcome an afternoon of food, drinks and convivial fun in the beautiful grounds of Catherine de Barnes Cricket Club.

A showcase of live bands and DJs throughout the day will entertain everyone, while the bars will be offering ales, cider and lager from the local breweries, as well as cocktails and prosecco.

The Autumn Market | 30 September

This seasonal event at The Bond will be celebrating all things autumnal in Birmingham with the best of the city’s street food, artists and makers, DJs and drinks.

The line-up includes local favourites like Pip's Hot Sauce, The Bounville Waffle Company and The Middle Feast... Mmmm.

The Wine Gang | 7 October

Oenophile? Get yourself to The Cube where there will be 200 wines to sample, wine masterclasses to attend, and 'wine walks' to join.

Wine from around the world will be available, and it's all headed up by four nationally renowned wine gurus: Joanna Simon, Anthony Rose, Jane Parkinson and David Williams.

Street Food, Craft Beer and Live Blues | 12 October

Enjoy an exclusive preview evening of tasty food, drinks and live blues music from a local legend.

Discover the new street food menu in the Vintage Dining Room at The Bull’s Head, transformed by heritage Birmingham brewery Davenports.

Guests get beer and a three-course meal with dishes including Jeera Chicken Skewers, Barbecue Pulled Pork and Banoffee Cream Pie.

Live music is by Steve Ajao Blues Giants, hailed as  'one of Birmingham's top blues and rock guitarists' (BBC).

Tom Aikens Beef Dinner | 17 October

There's prime British beef on the cards, and we're not just talking about the Michelin-starred host for the evening.

Join chef Tom Aikens himself at Tom's Kitchen, as he gives a demonstration of butchery techniques alongside The Lake District Farmers.

Not only that, but guests get a five-course meal with wine to accompany each course.

Burgundy Wine Dinner | 20 October

This is a truly high-class evening, hosted at Hotel du Vin by wine expert Nigel Wilkinson.

You'll learn about the wonderful cuvees of Vallet Frères, a family-owned Burgundy vineyard founded in 1864.

And you'll taste them of course! Along with canapes and a four-course meal.

Love Wine Festival | 11 November

Organised and run by local wine school BYWine, this is a one day wine event for lovers of wine; an opportunity to taste, learn and buy.

In their own words: 'We have a fun, relaxed and informal approach to wine; we know our stuff but are totally unstuffy. We love wine just as much as you do.'

Port & Portugese Evening | 17 November

Portugal has been a hot travel destination for Brits this year. Chances are you or someone you know was living it up in Lisbon, Porto or the Algarve over the summer.
