A Casa offers an evening of Southern Italian flavours, aromas and warm hospitality, and a chance to discover exquisite traditional specialities from the region of Puglia.
The exciting and authentic new pop-up is landing in Kings Heath, with the first event hosted by Kitchen Garden Cafe on York Rd, Thursday 30 March - Saturday 1 April.
Set menus feature recipes passed from generation to generation; simple dishes focusing on fresh seasonal ingredients typical of the Mediterranean diet.
Puglian cooking is strongly influenced by the abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables due to its sunny climate, and by the sea which surrounds this beautiful peninsula.
The menus feature seafood, meat and veggie options. Among the star dishes for our first visit is tender slow-cooked stewed octopus served with the queen of Italian cheeses the superb burrata, the creamy cousin of mozzarella.
There's also polpette della nonna al sugo, which are meatballs cooked in a tasty tomato sauce served with rosemary oven potatoes.
Other treats include frittata of courgette and onion, and a Bari Old Town classic of potato gratin filled with olives and onion served with sweet, multi-coloured carrots of Polignano.
Desserts are homemade and include tiramisu and orange, almond and walnut cake, which is light and dairy-free, made with olive oil.
All the food is cooked in Giulivo, the organic extra virgin olive oil produced by Monica from her own olive grove near Martina Franca.
It's the perfect chance to linger over simple pleasures: great food, great wine, great company and the feeling of being "a casa" - at home.

There will be excellent and well-priced Puglian wines to accompany the food available to purchase by the glass or bottle from Kitchen Garden's bar on the night.
The event is produced by Cooks In Case and promises a sensory experience of traditional Italian cooking, brought directly to Brum by Monica and Valentina, who fly in for 3 nights only.
